Saltuarius salebrosus

Zookeeping Nonsense
So I was at the zoo with my gf the other day and we were joking about all the birds/beasts we eventually want to keep, and she made a passing comment about us needing our own zoo. Completely joking of course, but me being the incorrigible nerd that I am I started to wonder if my selection of favorites might actually be viable in a smaller zoo setting. So for those zookeepers or any other keepers of animals on my list, your opinions on it would be most appreciated. Keep in mind, this list isn’t all of my favorite animals or even all the animals I want to keep, but those I would feel relatively confident in providing adequate care for (with help) and that would do well in captivity. I do not actually intend on having a zoo, I just want to see your thoughts.

Hi!! I recently saw a post about leaf tailed geckos (so shaped) and I was wondering if you had any cool facts about them?
Leaf-tailed Geckos:
Leaf tailed geckos, genus Uroplatus, have a pretty tough (ossified) skull and a high tooth count for their size. The largest species, U. giganteus can grow total length of about a foot! They are all highly cryptic, blending in with tree bark and dead leaves. Like most geckos, they are nocturnal and insectivorous.

Leaf-tailed Gecko (Uroplatus garamaso), family Gekkonidae, endemic to northern Madagascar
* This species used to be considered a population of Henkel’s Leaf-tailed Gecko, U. henkeli. They were recognized as a distinct lineage for awhile, but were only elevated to species status this year, 2023.

Something to spruce up your home office: a new poster featuring nine of the nineteen described Uroplatus leaf-tailed gecko species from Madagascar, with a bonus undescribed species (Uroplatus sp. Ca11, a.k.a. U. aff. henkeli ‘Montagne d’Ambre’). The geckos are shown to scale, from the enormous Uroplatus giganteus, to the delicate Uroplatus ebenaui. This poster also features the two newest species, Uroplatus fetsy and U. finaritra, described by our team in 2019. Love your smile, but what's that big animal you're sitting on?
[Image description: a white man with glasses and a big smile, wearing a a green shirt. On his shoulder is a large gecko uroplatus giganteus with it's mouth open, so it's appearing to smile as well. Background is a forest and a mountain.]
